“My life is like a history of hardship and hurdles – but it’s a tale of triumph too.”

BASHIR ABDI

From aspiring to become a football player to winning the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. European marathon record holder Bashir Abdi is exceptional in every way.

Success means nothing without family. Bashir may be an award-winning athlete; he is a devout father and husband above anything else. So come what may on Sunday’s race, Bashir is picking up his kids from school on Monday.

Ghent gave him an opportunity, and Bashir took it with both hands. Now he wants to return the favour. That’s why the Olympic medalist wants to inspire, train and support the new generation in this city. Give every kid a chance, and you’ll get a stronger society in return.

“That is why I give everything on the race track”

Overcoming obstacles life throws at you is the real challenge.
